Ghana launches Universal QR Code

The Government of Ghana has announced the launch a Universal QR code in December 2019 in a bid to make Ghana a cashless society, according to GhanaWeb.

The Universal QR code comprised squares of black and white blocks, which can be scanned by smartphones, aim of making it easier for businesses to accept electronic payments. 

Vice President, Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia, said the code which leverages existing technologies, traders and businesses will be able to receive payments without a point of sale device. Mobile phones will be sufficient to receive payment wherever and will go directly into users’ account that they have received payment.
