Ericsson and Cisco Systems have signed a strategic alliance agreement to offer joint solutions for the wireline communications market.

The multi-year agreement between Ericsson and Cisco will provide carrier class IP-based solutions, including professional services, for operators and help speed the adoption of more efficient and profitable multi-service networks. As a part of the agreement, the two companies will jointly define, integrate and offer multi-service network solutions. The deployment of multi-service networks is a compelling opportunity for carriers to offer new services on their fixed networks and accelerate revenue growth. The alliance builds on Ericssons strengths in multi-service networks along with leading expertise in systems integration and Cisco Systems leadership in IP routing and Ethernet. The agreement brings together technical depth and market experience that offers operators unique advantages and reduces risk as they carry out modernization of their networks. Ericsson and Cisco are pleased to see that significant operators such as Telefónica and Telstra are already showing interest in involvement with the newly formed alliance. Ericssons leading global service organization which operates in 140 countries, in coordination with Ciscos global advocacy organizations, will lead the development of joint capabilities for deploying multi-service networks, and upgrading and integrating operators existing systems. Core network solutions offered under the alliance, addressing both classic telephony and new multimedia services, will be built around Ericssons ENGINE softswitch portfolio and Ciscos core routing products. A broadband access offering will be based around Public Ethernet over DSL, using Ericssons IP-based digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM), Ericssons IP Service Engine and Cisco Systems Ethernet Access Solutions and Ethernet Switches.
