Rain has acquired Ansa, a merchant wallet startup, to combine prefunded balances with its stablecoin card issuing platform.
The transaction adds a fiat-based product to Rain's platform: Ansa's wallets hold dollar balances that customers load in advance and spend at the issuing brand. Neither company described a stablecoin component in the acquired technology. According to the announcement, Rain intends to combine these prefunded balances with its existing Visa and Mastercard issuing capability, allowing a balance to be spent outside the merchant that originally issued it, and to operate wallets, rewards, and stablecoins from a single platform.
Merchant wallet infrastructure
Ansa offered its wallet infrastructure through white-label APIs and mobile SDKs, alongside an incentive engine that attaches expiration dates to rewards to encourage repeat visits. Its client base has included Compass Coffee, a coffee chain based in Washington, D.C., and Reverb, a music gear marketplace. According to a case study published by Ansa, Compass Coffee recorded a 30% increase in visits among customers who adopted the wallet. Rain co-founder and chief executive Farooq Malik announced the acquisition on X, stating that the combined product would target sectors including sports teams, venues, hotels, and cruise lines.
Rain has said that Ansa established an arrangement with Mastercard allowing a closed-loop balance to be spent in-store over Mastercard's rails at existing terminals, while online and in-app transactions would authorise through Ansa's API rather than a card network. Neither Mastercard nor Ansa has published details of this arrangement. Ansa's own release announcing its in-store product, Ansa Anywhere, in September 2024, described the offering as tap-to-pay functionality through Apple Pay and Google Pay, and as compatible with any POS or payment service provider, without reference to Mastercard.
Second acquisition in nine months
The Ansa deal is Rain's second acquisition within nine months. In November 2025, the company acquired Uptop, a card-linked rewards platform that runs fan programmes for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Detroit Pistons, and LSU athletics. That acquisition followed a 58 million USD Series B round led by Sapphire Ventures. On 9 January 2026, Rain raised 250 million USD in a Series C round led by ICONIQ at a valuation of 1.95 billion USD, taking total funding above 338 million USD.
Following this initiative, Rain has linked the Ansa acquisition to its agentic commerce strategy, describing a stored value balance governed by rules on spending scope, location, and duration as comparable to the scoped cards it offers for AI agents. Goldberg is expected to contribute to this product, though Rain has not specified a timeline.
