Axiology has been included in the European Central Bank's Pontes launch list and has joined its newly formed Appia Contact Group, alongside Clearstream, SWIAT, and Cashlink.
The company has also been selected to take part in the ECB's Appia Contact Group, extending its involvement across both of the Eurosystem's key initiatives for DLT-based settlement using central bank money.
Two connected initiatives for tokenised settlement
Axiology is one of four DLT operators named on the Pontes list, together with Clearstream, SWIAT, and Cashlink. Pontes and Appia form complementary elements of the Eurosystem's approach to tokenised wholesale markets. Pontes is designed to connect DLT platforms with TARGET Services, while Appia addresses the longer-term development of a more integrated tokenised financial ecosystem. The Appia Contact Group has been established to bring market engagement on both initiatives into a single forum, supporting the ongoing evolution of Pontes alongside the development of the Appia roadmap.
According to the company, participation in both initiatives allows it to contribute to the practical implementation of DLT settlement as well as to discussions shaping the future of European market infrastructure. The initiatives form part of a broader effort to support a European capital markets environment in which tokenised securities can move across regulated infrastructure with fewer operational hand-offs. Europe's markets remain divided across national systems, which the ECB and market participants have identified as a source of added complexity for cross-border issuance and investment. With this in mind, Linking DLT-based securities infrastructure with central bank money settlement is presented as a step towards addressing that fragmentation.
Testing across the securities lifecycle
Axiology is preparing to connect its regulated DLT Trading and Settlement System (DLT TSS) with Eurosystem payment infrastructure. Under the model being tested, tokenised securities continue to be recorded and transferred on Axiology's infrastructure, while the corresponding cash leg can settle in central bank money. Furthermore, the company's testing work spans settlement scenarios across the lifecycle of digital securities, including primary issuance, secondary-market transactions, redemptions, and coupon or interest payments.
Marius Jurgilas, CEO of Axiology, said that tokenisation would only bring meaningful change to European capital markets if digital securities could connect effectively with infrastructure that institutions already rely on. He added that Pontes represents a step towards making that connection possible in the near term, while Appia is oriented towards how a more integrated tokenised financial ecosystem could develop over a longer horizon.
Axiology is currently progressing through the Pontes testing and certification process ahead of the initial launch date. The company has noted that production participation remains subject to completion of all operational prerequisites, together with final certification and any necessary regulatory approvals.
