The new round of funding is led by Project A, Creandum, current investor FoodLabs, and several angel investors.
The company started with a focus on multinational foods, especially Turkish and Arabic, but now sells a large variety of groceries in the Berlin area. Launched in the summer of 2021, Yababa is already considering expanding towards Cologne in Germany, followed by France, The Netherlands, Belgium, and the UK.
Yababa comes as a solution to a problem multicultural communities are facing in big cities across Europe – the need to feel closer to their ethnic and cultural roots. There is a relative lack of competition in this market sector, and the Berlin company aims to feel the void other food delivery apps let.
