WTO to work on new rules for ecommerce

Monday 28 January 2019 13:42 CET | News

The World Trade Organisation has announced that member nations will start discussing new ecommerce rules in March 2019.

According to Benzinga, the worlds trade body declared that there are “no specific multilateral rules” regarding digital transactions. Currently, businesses and consumers have to rely only on rules agreed by several countries in their own trade agreements.

The negotiations are aimed to lead to a multilateral legal framework for consumers and businesses, helping them to buy, sell, and do business online in a safely manner.

In addition, WTO will focus on separating ecommerce rules from the existing rules that govern traditional movements of containerised or palletised goods.
