Walmart expands Scan&Go test to 100 stores in the US

Walmart has announced that is testing Scan&Go self-checkout program to a hundred additional stores in the US.

The Mobile Express Scan & Go app allows customers to scan and bag their items while they shop and pay directly with their phones, by using in-app stored credit card information. After making a purchase, the shopper shows the receipt to an employee who is waiting at the Mobile Express line.

The retailer says that the self-checkout program will make waiting in line at the register obsolete.

Scan & Go is currently being tested in a few select markets, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Orlando and Northwest Arkansas, and is expanding to stores in 33 states across the U.S. When customers launch the app, it automatically lists participating stores nearby.

As part of the test, some Walmart stores have been outfitted with Scan & Go kiosks where customers can pick up easy-to-use handheld devices. This allows them to try out the service before downloading it to their phones.
