Tesco unveils its first cashless store in UK

Thursday 27 February 2020 13:19 CET | News

UK-based retailer Tesco has opened its first cashless store in the country, following Amazon’s opening its checkout-less full-sized grocery store.

Although the cash-free store has 14 till points, only two are staffed and it will only take payments from contactless cards, debit and credit cards, Apple Pay and Tesco Pay+.

Tesco says that the new tech is a quantum leap that could be launched across the retailer’s chain, InternetRetailing reports. However, there are some technical issues to consider, including whether people would simply leave the store without paying for an item.
