Shopee to scale ecommerce venture in Brazil

Tuesday 26 January 2021 12:59 CET | News

According to Tech in Asia, the Singapore-based online shopping platform Shopee is planning to expand operations to Brazil.

The move comes after the online shopping major launched an online store in the country in October 2019 – its first foray outside of Asia. Shopee’s operations in Brazil appeared to be minor then, Tech in Asia says, with its business there only showing the same shops as those on its Asian platforms.

The company has also posted several open positions in the South American country, as seen on its LinkedIn page. Its former country managing director for Vietnam, Pine Kyaw, has also been listed as Shopee Brazil country head. According to one Tech in Asia source, Shopee is also looking into other Latin American markets – particularly Mexico – if its Brazilian bet pays off.
