Shopee plans new app for online sales in Mexico

Tuesday 23 February 2021 12:53 CET | News

Shopee, the ecommerce arm of Southeast Asia-based Sea, has announced a new app for Mexico, planning to offer online sales in what would be its second market in the Americas.

The ecommerce platform launched a small presence in Brazil in 2019 as a pilot initiative of its cross-border team, and has since been scaling up operations, Reuters reports.

The expansion to Mexico could mark a major new growth opportunity in cross-border sales, a market already explored by shopping app Wish. Shopee will offer free shipping throughout Mexico, offering items such as electronics, clothes, toys, and home goods. However, Shopee’s Mexico website (shopee.com.mx) was not yet available, and it was not clear if the company had begun accepting orders.
