Instagram has launched QR codes globally, allowing retailers and other physical businesses to enable consumers engage with them in a contactless manner.

According to Internet Retailing, the QR code functionality was initially launched in 2019 in Japan, and it allows retailers to generate a QR code that can be printed out and displayed anywhere for shoppers to scan to open up that company’s Instagram account.

From there, shoppers can interact with the company and even initiate purchases from the Instagram account if it is set up for sales. Besides, to enable the functionality, the retailer has to access the settings menu and click the QR code option to generate the code.

Overall, QR codes are an easy solution that enables customers to achieve contactless experiences that reduce physical touchpoints and prevent the potential spread of the coronavirus. Consequently, more and more consumers lean on this technology for activities regarding shopping, thus Instagram’s initiative facilitates the consumer experience, providing them with a easy way to access business profiles during these challenging times.
