German Banking Industry Committee promotes easy payment at e-charging stations

The German Banking Industry Committee (GBIC) has announced a commitment to installing terminals for card-based payments in charging stations for electric vehicles.

According to a representative of the GBIC, a consumer-friendly charging infrastructure is needed to enable simple payment procedures and cost transparency. The committee suggests standard use of common card payment systems, such as debit and credit cards, as a secure solution for e-charging points. The GBIC press release states that card payment modules with PIN pads enable cost transparency, have been tried and tested in practice and are inexpensive to manufacture.
