Argentina to restrict e-commerce purchases

Friday 24 January 2014 11:02 CET | News

The Argentinian government has decided to restrict purchases made via the internet.

As a result, Argentinian citizens who want to buy goods over the web must first get an approval from the government. The initiative is aimed at reducing the amount of USD leaving the country and it applies to goods that enter Argentina using the postal service.

Authorities have been imposing currency controls meant to stem capital flight since 2011, making it difficult to legally trade pesos for dollars.
