Westpac buys shares into security company QuintessenceLabs

Friday 19 June 2015 00:23 CET | News

Westpac Banking Corporation has invested in Australia-based technology security specialist QuintessenceLabs (QLabs).

Westpac will become an 11% owner of the company. QLabs has created quantum technology that strongly encrypts confidential data, using advanced engineering methods to create keys with truly random and therefore un-hackable number combinations.

The bank will initially use the technology to secure the devices and work of its own employees, while it investigates its use on customer data.
