Zcash implements the network hard fork Sapling

Tuesday 30 October 2018 13:08 CET | News

zcash, the privacy-focused cryptocurrency, has made it officially the implementation of its network hard fork, called Sapling.

Activated on schedule at block 419,200, Sapling has been planned as an upgrade, and it aims to make the network faster, lighter and secure. zcash believed that transactions will take 90% less time and require 97% less memory to occur as a result. However, the overall ecosystem will still need some time to add new addresses.

Moreover, representatives of the company argue that users cannot yet transfer funds from old shielded addresses to the new version without showing amounts. zcash is developing a tool to automate the migration of funds in a way that allows users to minimise the impact on their privacy.

So far, no date has been presented for when this tool may be released.
