Rakuten partners with Bitnet to accept Bitcoin payments

Japanese ecommerce company Rakuten has teamed up with Bitnet to enable customers to choose Bitcoin as a payment option.

The internet services company will begin accepting the new payment method first on Rakuten.com in the US, to be followed by Rakuten.de in Germany and Rakuten.at in Austria.

Bitnet provides a digital commerce platform enabling enterprise-scale merchants to accept bitcoin payments.

In February 2015, Rakuten has revealed plans to start accepting Bitcoin as payment.
