Xbox announces the Xbox Mastercard in partnership with Barclays

US-based Xbox has announced the Xbox Mastercard co-branded credit card, which will be issued by Barclays US Consumer Bank.


This credit card, devoid of an annual fee, marks Xbox's debut into co-branded credit cards within the United States and aims to offer users a balanced mix of benefits for both gaming activities and their everyday expenditures. Available perks include accruable points that can be redeemed for Xbox games and add-ons, as well as access to certain streaming and dining delivery services. 

Issued by Barclays US Consumer Bank, the Xbox Mastercard will be exclusively accessible to qualified Xbox Insiders across all 50 US states starting in 21 September 2023, with plans to extend the availability to the general public in the US in 2024. 

Key features of the Xbox Mastercard comprise a zero annual fee and an initial bonus of 5,000 card points upon the first purchase. Cardholders will also gain access to three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate when they make their initial purchase within 180 days of opening their account. Additional benefits encompass earning 3X card points on select streaming platforms and dining delivery services, and 1X card points for regular purchases. The card provides a choice of five distinct designs, with the option to personalise it with an Xbox Gamertag.

  • Earning 5X card points on eligible products at the Microsoft Store. 
  • Access to the cardmember's FICO Credit Score online for free. 
  • Exclusive access to experiences on for Mastercard cardholders. 
  • Additional advantages associated with the Mastercard network, such as ID Theft Protection, Zero Liability Protection, and Global Services for emergency assistance.

In the official press release, representatives from Xbox Player Services highlighted the feedback they received from from the Xbox community and placed this credit card launch in the context of an increased demand for more purchase value. They also underscored the card's role in offering rewards for gaming. Officials from Barclays US Consumer Bank talked about the Xbox brand and expressed their eagerness to deliver a credit card product that sets the standard for gaming enthusiasts. 

According to the official press release, the introduction of the Xbox Mastercard signifies a milestone in the ongoing partnership between Mastercard and Microsoft, centred on supporting seamless commerce experiences through digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity solutions, and fraud management. 

Mastercard and Microsoft have also partnered to help small business partners through Microsoft Advertising, helping scale their online business through benefits across their search network. The Xbox Mastercard will be available in waves to Xbox Insiders throughout the fall of 2023.
