Todos Launches Smart Card Readers Compliant With Taiwanese FISC II Standard

Wednesday 31 March 2004 10:15 CET | News

The Tawainese Ministry of Finance ruled in October 2003 that the more than 60 million magnetic cards in circulation in Taiwan needed to be converted into more secure IC cards in 2004. A Taiwanese standard for OTP, FISC II OTP, was developed, and this OTP generator is added on the new ATM chip cards, which are currently being rolled out. Todos has implemented full support for FISC II in three of its portable smart card readers; Todos eCode Reader, Todos eCode Signature and Todos eCode Authenticator, and in its backend system, Todos eCode Central System.

The eCode readers are used in combination with the Taiwanese ATM cards to generate OTPs for remote authentication, and the Todos eCode Central System handles verification, personalisation of data generation, key management, and customer support. The Todos eCode system offers enhanced functionality for FISC II OTP, with additional features such as several OTP generators on the same card, electronic signatures, and Challenge/Response functionaliy. These are standard features in the Todos eCode system, and they are supported both in the Todos eCode Central System and in the eCode readers.
