TI to deliver RFID solution for MasterCard PayPass

Monday 24 January 2005 04:05 CET | News

Texas Instruments (TI) plans to deliver radio frequency identification chips designed to meet the stringent security requirements for MasterCard Internationals PayPass line of RFID payment cards and tokens.

Dallas-based TI expects to submit the product for MasterCard certification in the second quarter of 2005. Full production is planned to start in the second half of this year. The chip is the key element in an RIFID based payment system. It incorporates the highest level of security available today. The chip allows for this increased level of security because it supports significantly faster rates of data exchange, enabling more complex security information to be passed between an RFID card and reader without affecting the users experience.
