Telcel Joins Axaltos Worldwide SIMagine Contest as Sponsor

Now in its sixth year, the contest, conducted in association with Samsung Electronics and Sun Microsystems, aims to broaden wireless application knowledge and stimulate innovation around popular wireless applications on SIM cards. Telcel is the largest wireless operator in Mexico and in Latin America with 25 million subscribers. The company is migrating to 64K SIM cards in their mobile phone handsets to increase their Value Added Service offer. Contestants are entered into an international contest where they will vie for over €60,000 in prize money. Winners will be announced at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, February 14-17, 2005 and Telcel will award a special prize of €5,000 to one of the finalists there. Entry submissions of concepts will be accepted between July and October 2004. Contestants will then be short-listed and Axalto will run a two-day SIM Java development training program for the short-listed candidates. SIMagine has inspired winning applications that have included SIMsave, a SIM-based application that lets you backup a user’s phone book to prevent against accidental loss or damage and serverless location-based services like Follow Me which provides an automatic fixed to mobile forwarding service.
