Wednesday 23 June 2004 14:29 CET | News

OMNIKEY has launched the CardMan Smart@Link 2.0, its latest chip set for standalone smart card reader devices.

CardMan Smart@Link 2.0 supports serial interfaces in addition to the USB 2.0 interface and allows easier integration in embedded solutions with TTL or V.24 serial ports. The chip set, pre-certified to WHQL, EMV (Europay, Mastercard, Visa) Level 1 and USB CCID specifications, has been designed as a drop-in replacement for existing CardMan Smart@Link reader designs. Furthermore, CardMan Smart@Link 2.0 can be interfaced to hardware ports that control various OEM-specific features: card eject functionality and user interfaces such as LEDs and beepers, for example, can be controlled by the chip set. With its high performance interfaces to both smart card and host system, the CardMan Smart@Link is the ideal chip set for embedding smart card reader technology into existing and upcoming solutions. Using the CardMan Smart@Link Design-In Kit, which contains sample chips and a ready-to-use board as well as the required documentation, development is easier than ever before. Best known for their excellent performance and interoperability, OMNIKEY¹s products are designed to support any smart card on any computer within any application. The ³Smart@² family of reader chip set makes customization and integration of chip sets into existing systems easier than ever, regardless of whether high speed serial, USB or PCMCIA connectivity is required. Chip sets provided by OMNIKEY are compliant with all relevant smart card standards such as ISO 7816, EMV 2000 Level 1 and WHQL, making the certification process for the applications based on these chip sets fast and simple. By using OMNIKEY chip sets, hardware integrators can reduce time-to-market and costs by integrating OMINKEY smart card reader functionality into existing products. OMNIKEY reader chip sets support any kind of smart card, including microprocessors and memory cards with 5, 3 or 1.8 Volt supply.
