Oberthur Card Systems first to receive SmartTrust WIB v1.3 Certification

Saturday 16 October 2004 12:08 CET | News

Oberthur Card Systems has become the industry’s first SIM vendor to achieve certification for the SmartTrust WIBââ€Å¾Ã‚¢ v1.3 implementation.

Since its launch in 1999, SmartTrust WIB has become the mobile industry’s de facto (U)SIM Interpreter, providing a common interface between the (U)SIM card and (U)SIM Toolkit applications. With over 200 million WIB-enabled (U)SIM cards issued worldwide, operators have effectively been able to dynamically manage (U)SIM settings, subscribers and deliver value-added services over-the-air (OTA). Oberthur Card Systems was one of the first smart card vendors to implement WIB technology and to support the SmartTrust specifications. In 2002, the company became the first (U)SIM supplier to achieve SmartTrust WIB™ v1.2 certification. During this time, the two companies have partnered to deliver operator solutions that leverage the ability of the (U)SIM to increase both subscriber satisfaction and revenue by acting as a common launch-pad for value-added data services and enhanced subscriber management. SmartTrust WIB v1.3 will improve dynamic updates, downloads and activation mechanisms for plug-ins (extensions to the browser functionality) on the (U)SIM card. Additionally, an extended set of WIB commands enables new services on the card – support of icons, timers, bookmarks for faster access to information sites and other functionalities. Oberthur Card Systems has already signed a large-volume contract for SmartTrust WIB v1.3 cards with one of the largest operator groups in Europe
