Monday 25 November 2013 09:03 CET | News

MasterCard and US provider of prepaid financial services Green Dot have entered an extended relationship that allows US cardholders with MasterCard rePower-enabled prepaid cards to reload their cards via the Walmart Rapid Reload service.

Walmart Rapid Reload uses the Green Dot Network to provide cardholders with a way to load funds to their cards by swiping their cards at any register at participating Walmart stores (not available in Vermont or Wyoming). Cardholders can add funds to their prepaid account by using cash or a pre-printed payroll or government cheque. Cashier-added funds are set to be available for use by MasterCard rePower-enabled cardholders within minutes.

The MasterCard rePower network is open to any MasterCard issuer of reloadable prepaid card programs. Portfolios such as the Univision MasterCard Prepaid Card are set to be able to provide their cardholders with the cash reload option through Walmart Rapid Reload.

Green Dot is a publicly traded bank holding company which provides banking and payment services to US consumers. Green Dots products and services include its General Purpose Reloadable (GPR) prepaid cards and its cash transfer network which are available to consumers online and through a network of approximately retail stores across the US.

In recent news, MasterCard has announced that Andrea Scerch has been appointed President of DataCash, in charge of providing strategic direction and leadership of the company, and will be based in the UK.
