Interlink Provides Innovative and Timely Security Solution For Prestigious Hospital

This implementation was completed in less than three weeks to meet the urgent need of the hospital for HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliance. To meet the expanding privacy requirements, Denver Health is lessening its reliance on physical charts and increasing its use of electronic medical records, shared computer access accounts, and other automated processes. The organization sought to maintain access to their automated patient systems in a secure fashion, without requiring redundant login. After evaluating commercially available options, Interlink consultants determined that a custom solution was required to meet the hospitals specific needs. Interlinks resulting single sign-on solution leverages Denver Healths central directory service to determine access rights to applications and patient data. With a Microsoft infrastructure in place, Denver Health already owned much of the technology that made this solution possible. Interlinks smart card solution provides Denver Health employees fast and easy network authentication and physical identification all in one card. Upon inserting the smart card in a computer terminal, the users are authenticated against the hospitals Microsoft Active Directory account repository and have complete access to the applications and resources they need to do their job. This greatly simplifies the end-user experience and has reduced Help Desk support calls at Denver Health involving user accounts and network password management. Gemplus, an international provider of smart cards and related software, provided the physical technology for the solution.
