INSIDE Contactless has launched the PicoRead, the low-cost, low-power, multi-standard 13.56 MHz contactless chip interface.

PicoRead is INSIDEs answer to the fast growing demand for an RF 13.56Mhz interface in large scale applications where power and space for integration are limited. PicoRead was specifically designed to address the needs of OEMs in consumer electronics and equipments where large reader volumes require small footprint at low-cost. Applications developed using INSIDEs couplers can be easily transferred to PicoRead. PicoRead integrates the Reader-to-Reader technology (R2R) enabling it to communicate with any 13.56 MHz contactless chip and reader that uses the ISO 14443 A/B, FeliCa or ISO 15693 protocols. Thus any consumer electronic device equipped with INSIDEs R2R technology becomes both an RF reader and an RF tag, all in one. Furthermore, R2R is compatible with NFC enabled devices. PicoReads operating distance works up to 10 cm, and uses a baud rate up to 848 Kbps for faster transactions. Its low power consumption (from 20µA to 50µA in active mode) and power saving mode (50µA in stand-by mode, and automatic card detection) are particularly well-adapted for battery operated devices. PicoRead is also available in a chipset version, where it comes along with a microcontroller host interface.
