HID and INSIDE Team Up to Offer Complete Access Control Solution

iCLASS, HIDs new read/write contactless smart card optimized for multiple applications based on INSIDE Contactless technology, will be displayed at Cartes 2003 on INSIDEs booth 3J041.In the development of this new product line, INSIDE licensed their contactless smart card technology to HID, which provided its savoir faire in both the design and integration to provide a best-of-class, high security, contactless solution for the Access Control world. The result of this teamwork was the development of iCLASS contactless smart cards and readers, making access control solutions open, more powerful, more versatile, and most importantly, offering enhanced security through encryption and mutual authentication. At the same time, iCLASS is user-friendly, delivering the convenience, affordability and reliability of proximity technology for which HID is known worldwide. INSIDE has provided HID over 2 million PicoPass chips for the manufacture of the iCLASS cards. The 16Kbit version of these iCLASS smart cards is compliant with several ISO standards (ISO 14443 A/B and ISO 15693). The standards enable many developers to work with proximity applications as well as applications needing longer range. This product line has several unique features going a step beyond the traditional RFID technology, it includes encrypted data storage, mutual authentication, secure reading and writing of data, and user definable access keys. The iCLASS product family was designed to provide a true multi-application, open solution for access control, as well as time and attendance, authorization access to office equipment, digital cash, IT secure authentication (logical access), lighting and HVAC control and billing, transit passes, guard tour patrol, equipment and material check-out, and loyalty and membership programs.
