Fingerprint Cards, Valid to launch contactless biometric payment cards

Thursday 5 December 2019 11:47 CET | News

Fingerprint Cards has team up with Valid, aiming to develop contactless biometric payment cards that integrate the T-shape module designed by Fingerprint Cards.

As per Biometric Update, the module allegedly has ultra-low power consumption and can be assimilated into smart cards through standard processes.

Moreover, contactless payments are on a growing trend, which means that biometric payment cards could deliver a number of opportunities for banks, merchants, and consumers. As such, in November 2019, Fingerprint Cards announced it was partnering with Visa, Gemalt,o and Swss Corner Bank to launch a biometric credit card in Switzerland. At the same time, Valid is providing biometric ID cards in Brazil, as part of a smart city initiative in the State of São Paulo.
