Emosyn Extends Technology Leadership in Smart Card Microcontrollers

Wednesday 28 January 2004 00:00 CET | News

Emosyn extends its clear leadership in embedded flash technology for the smart card market with itssecure, high endurance, high performance User-Configurable Memory (UCM) technology.

Emosyns UCM technology allows users to protect their software investment with rapid and penalty-free programming changes, making the days of the traditional masked Read-Only Memory (ROM) and Electrically Erasable-Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) model well and truly numbered. UCM technology gives smart card software developers the flexibility to specify the memory space assigned for program code and for data storage -- something impossible with most smart card products available today. With UCM technology, memory sections can be configured as needed as read/write, read only, or execute only. By using proprietary technical advances, UCM offers the smart card industrys best flash performance -- programming times are guaranteed to be less than 40 microseconds, with page erases typically less than 500 microseconds. Endurance is state-of-the-art for flash technology -- cells are guaranteed to perform a minimum of 100,000 write/erase cycles. Emosyns proprietary implementation of SSTs SuperFlash technology produces a cell density close to that of competitors masked ROM, creating a flexible, cost- effective solution without the penalties of delayed time to market and inherent security concerns with the traditional ROM/EEPROM model. Enhanced Security Emosyn includes Dual-Key Triple-DES in the Theseus Platinum family, with independently confirmed differential and simple power analysis (DPA/SPA) resistance techniques. With additional proprietary security features, Emosyns Theseus Platinum family members are being designed to the industrys leading security standards -- including Visa Technology Level 3.
