Egypt recently created a smart card association entitled The Egyptian Association for Smart Cards Industry & Applications (EASCIA).

They have just recently formed a ten-member executive board. The association was created in response to a call from Egypt’s Minister of Communication and Information Technology and has a two-fold goal of spreading awareness of the importance of the smart cards applications in Egypt and the Arab region and driving for a regional standard for smart card implementation. The association believes that ultimately the use of smart cards will contribute to the economy of the region and the raising of living standards.
