The biometric payment card is offered by Thales Group with a Fingerprint Cards sensor. As per Biometric Update, the certification covers fingerprint performance based on successful verification and very low False Acceptance (FAR) and False Rejection Rates (FRR). It also takes into account the speed and distance performance during transactions, the security of the implementation and data, card structure integrity, and function, thus going beyond standard bank card certification.
Thales is the first company to achieve this certification. Moreover, Fingerprint Cards and Gemalto, which has become Thales Digital Identity, formed a partnership for dual-interface biometric cards in 2019, and Gemalto has been involved in several trials with Mastercard already.
