Financial institution Bank of China (BoC) and Chinese card issuer UnionPay International have launched the BoC UnionPay travel card in Southeast Asia.

The card is available in Singapore (credit card), Malaysia (pre-paid card) and Vietnam (debit card) and will be gradually introduced to other countries in Southeast Asia.

The card gives cardholders access to UnionPay’s international payments network and Bank of China’s Renminbi cross-border clearance ability. Cardholders can receive discounts for tickets to over 700 places of interest in China and get travel, dining, shopping, entertainment and car rental offers from more than 1,000 Chinese merchants and over 5,000 global merchants.

UnionPay cards are valid in more than 140 countries and there are more than 3.4 billion UnionPay cards. UnionPay is also supporting the issuance of cards abroad in order to provide payment opportunities to foreigners, who are visiting China for business, travel or education purposes. 65 different companies in 30 countries are issuing UnionPay cards.

In recent news, Acculynk, a global PIN-debit authentication gateway, is now offering US merchants the capability to accept China’s Union Pay PIN debit cards on their Chinese websites using the PaySecure International graphical PIN pad for UPOP authentication.
