BART To Move Ahead with TransLink

Thursday 25 September 2003 22:22 CET | News

The San Francisco BART Board of Directors has approved moving ahead with the TransLink (smart card) program which will provide a single universal fare instrument, good for travel on the regions major transit systems.

The approval by the BART Board reflects agreement reached with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) to ensure BART customers who opt to use TransLink will continue to have access to key services and options available with the existing BART ticket. The TransLink card, which has completed the first phase of a pilot program, begun January, 2002, acts as a debit card which is simply reloaded when the value is low or used up.
