Apple, Clipper join forces to allow Clipper card on Apple Pay

Thursday 18 February 2021 11:45 CET | News

In a new partnership with Clipper, Apple has unveiled that the Clipper card will soon be supported in the Wallet app and Apple Pay, 9to5Mac reports.

As part of the agreement, customers will be able to use the card on iPhone and Apple Watch, with just a tap without authentication. The Clipper card is a reloadable smart card used for transit fare payment in the US. It gives access to buses, rails, ferries, and trains from 24 different transit agencies, which includes BART and Muni.

The Express Transit is enabled in the Wallet app, and with this, users don’t need to authenticate Apple Pay with touch ID, face ID, or double-click on Apple Watch. However, Apple did not provide further details regarding the date when the Clipper card will be available in the Wallet app to iPhone and Apple Watch users, but the company is asking people to sign up to receive an email when it becomes available.
