tapeeno allows UK users to leverage Tap to Pay on iPhone

Friday 6 September 2024 09:16 CET | News

UTP’s app for micro-merchants tapeeno has announced that it enabled its merchants operating across the UK to accept in-person contactless payments with Tap to Pay on iPhone.

By utilising Tap to Pay on iPhone, which allows merchants to accept all forms of contactless payments, including credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets, using an iPhone and the tapeeno iOS app, the company’s community of micro-merchants and freelancers in the UK is set to benefit from increased convenience, as well as an optimised user experience. Integrating the payment solution at checkout enables merchants to prompt the customer to hold their contactless payment near the merchant’s iPhone, with the transaction being securely completed via NFC technology. In addition, Apple’s Tap to Pay supports PIN entry, which extends accessibility options.

Moreover, the payment service’s technology leverages the iPhone's built-in capabilities to keep the business and customer data private and secure. When a transaction is processed, Apple does not store card numbers or other information on the device or its servers.

When commenting on the announcement, representatives from UTP underlined that by making tapeeno available on the App Store, merchants and their customers are set to benefit from a secure, private, and convenient option to conduct payments. Through this, the company plans to assist entrepreneurs of all sizes in focusing on running and expanding their businesses. Also, Tap to Pay on iPhone aims to allow tapeeno’s customers to utilise a contactless payment acceptance solution that is simple to use and does not require any additional hardware or payment terminals. Available on the tapeeno iOS app on an iPhone XS or later, which runs the latest version of the operating system, Tap to Pay on iPhone is set to support merchants in getting access to contactless payment acceptance in an accelerated manner.

Launched in May 2022 through a collaboration between UTP and Paynt, tapeeno was set to convert merchant smartphones into payment acceptance devices. The SoftPOS product was intended to equip the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector with a fast settlement solution merged with payment processing that requires no additional hardware and does not impose any monthly fees.
