Point of Sale (POS) systems not only can record and track customer orders, process credit and debit cards and manage inventory; they can also provide retailers real-time customer information helping to create a more customer-centric environment, according to BearingPoint.

The recent study, Retail Horizons: Benchmarks for 2003, Forecast for 2004, conducted by BearingPoint and the National Retail Federation Foundation found that eighty-three percent of retailers expect replacing or upgrading point of sale (POS) software systems to provide real-time customer information at the time of sale. For instance, raw data can be processed to develop predictions about consumer behavior for future activities such as a sales campaign, or how to price an item. BearingPoints store of the future vision helps retailers bring together leading POS, loyalty applications, and store connectivity solutions to support same-store sales.
