Meta Messenger introduces payment shortcuts

Wednesday 30 March 2022 12:28 CET | News

Social media platform Meta (Facebook) has announced a new chat shortcut for Messenger users designed to smooth internal payments.

The feature is one of the many shortcuts recently welcomed on Messenger, a new command system that will boost messaging efficiency and increase utility. The /Pay feature on Messenger is settled to be launched in April-May 2022 and will only be available for Android and iOS devices in the US.

The /Pay shortcut allows Messenger users to easily send and receive funds in private or one-on-one conversations. The payments benefit from Meta’s latest security features and will be processed in real time, without fees, similar to other instant cash apps like Venmo or Revolut.

Other shortcuts already introduced by the instant messaging app include silent notifications in chat groups and tagging everyone in the chat. The shortcut @everyone allows users to notify all group participants in the chat for important announcements and maximum exposure. The /silent shortcut (also available on Instagram as @silent) allows users to send silent notifications in group chats. Messenger customers already have the option to mute notifications and push-up messages from private and chat groups.
