Wincor Nixdorf, Sun Microsystems and Retek have announced the availability of an integrated solution that delivers a low-cost, secure, scalable JavaPOS-based technology offering to the retail industry.

The solution enables retailers to easily acquire and implement end-to-end JavaPOS-based technology -- at the point of sale (POS) and on store servers. Based on Java technology, the solution offers retail customers all the benefits of the only standards-based platform for developing and deploying secure, robust, interoperable enterprise applications. The solution includes: -- Wincor Nixdorfs BEETLE POS systems, built upon a single, open technology platform -- the BEETLE One architecture -- that provides mix-and-match flexibility between BEETLE models, simplifies service requirements and guarantees a consistent, stable platform for next-generation POS solutions. -- Retek Integrated Store Operations (ISO), which provides retailers a technologically advanced software application that delivers point-of-sale, labor scheduling, time and attendance, cash management and inventory management. -- The JavaPOS solution runs on Suns Sun Fire volume systems and the Solaris 9 Operating System in the store. The combined, end-to-end solution delivers the most highly secure and scalable infrastructure to manage the massive data I/O volume and real-time information the retail industry requires.
