TELUS has launched three new TELUS security solutions, growing its slate of state-of-the-art security solutions for business and government in Canada. Distributed Denial of Service, Intrusion Prevention Service and Secure Socket Layer VPN are new additions to TELUS leading edge IP security services package. TELUS Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) prevention is the first of its kind in Canada. A hardware based solution, it continuously monitors customer network traffic for anomalies and destroys them before they affect legitimate users services. The Intrusion Prevention Service (IPS) is a turn-key solution that insulates a network environment against external attacks. The Secure Socket Layer (SSL) VPN eliminates the need for client software deployment, costly maintenance and desktop support by utilizing the Internets capacity for data transportation. Security threats are on the rise as the power of the Internet grows. According to data from the CERT Coordination Center in Pennsylvania, the worldwide cost of viruses and worms was estimated at $45 billion in 2003, with annual costs expected to rise by 300 per cent year over year. Last year, the CSI/FBIs 2004 Computer Crime & Security Survey noted a shift in the kinds of security threats that resulted in business losses, from theft of proprietary information to virus threats that were entwined with denial of service. Last month the Auditor General of the Government of Canada released a report that highlighted the need for increased vigilance in information security by federal departments. TELUS has been in the business of providing security solutions since 1996. TELUS Enterprise Security Consulting Solutions provides a competitive edge to business through a comprehensive multi-faceted package of capabilities that is customized and managed to fit the needs of each customer. Through services including VPN, Firewalls, Anti-Virus, Authentication, DDoS, IPS and SSL VPN, TELUS integrates security solutions into its entire business solutions portfolio, ensuring that security is not treated merely as a stand-alone feature but rather as a cornerstone of the business solutions package.
