Official Payments Corp. Offers TurboTax Customers New Payment Options

Monday 20 December 2004 20:22 CET | News

Official Payments Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Tier Technologies, Inc., has entered into an Agreement with Intuit Inc. to offer TurboTax customers the benefit of convenient and secure new federal and state tax payment options during the 2004 Tax Year.

TurboTax customers who pay through Official Payments benefit in three ways: Convenience. Paying by Internet or telephone is faster and easier than rushing to the post office. In a transaction lasting about four minutes, a TurboTax customer can pay taxes with their credit or debit card and receive an instant confirmation of payment. In addition, making federal and state estimated or extension payments through Official Payments eliminates the need to file the associated paper form. Rewards. TurboTax customers holding credit or debit cards with rewards programs linked to spending may earn rewards for every tax dollar paid using their cards. These rewards programs vary widely by card company, but past programs have included double-points or bonus point programs for paying with a card. Cash Management. TurboTax individual filers can charge their taxes and pay off the balance on their own schedule, rather than taking out a bank loan or establishing a payment program with the government. Under the agreement, Intuit will create an Official Payments Corp./Intuit co-branded Web welcome page that will provide Official Payments Corp. customers access to Intuits web-based TurboTax federal and state income tax preparation services during the 2004 Tax Year, (January 15, 2005 to October 15, 2005). Additionally, Intuit will refer to Official Payments Corp. services in Intuit products such as Intuits web-based TurboTax federal and state income tax preparation services, and the Tax Year 2004 version of Intuits desktop TurboTax software. Official Payments Corp. will promote Intuits products in a variety of ways including online promotion and access to TurboTax in a co-branded payment center; promotion of Intuit products to Official Payments customers through www.officialpayments.com, 1-800-2PAY-TAX, and payment confirmation notifications; distribution of an electronic newsletter promoting Intuit products and services; through partnership marketing materials; through client relationships; and through Official Payments marketing collateral. Official Payments provides electronic payment services for the Internal Revenue Service, 24 states, the District of Columbia and nearly 1,600 local government clients nationwide. Official Payments principal business is processing electronic payments on behalf of government entities via its Web site, www.officialpayments.com, and its toll-free telephone number, 1-800-2PAY-TAX(SM). Official Payments charges citizens a convenience fee for the service. Citizens using credit or debit cards with bonus rewards programs may, depending on their cards program, earn reward points, airline frequent flyer miles or cash back for paying their taxes and fees. Rewards programs vary depending on credit card companies rules. Consumers are advised to check with their card issuer for details.
