Monday 16 March 2020 14:28 CET | News

Irish bank AIB has suspended its earlier decision to impose a fee on contactless card transactions due to coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak, reports Electronic Payments International.

Earlier, the bank announced that it will charge one cent per contactless transaction from the end of May 2020.

The decision was revoked after Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe announced that to raise the issue with the bank.

It comes at a time when several organisations have advised people to switch from cash transactions to mitigate the risks of coronavirus contagion.
