Eracom Technologies has released a new version of it;s leading software encryption product ProtectFile.

The newly released version, which now supports smartcards from Infineon (CardOS) and the Austrian Trust Centre (a-Trust) also showcases extended compatibility with Entrust PKI environments by supporting the new Entrust Security Provider as the interface to the PKI. ProtectFile 3.01.0 is a client resident, transparent file encryption solution designed to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access. As a scalable and modular tool, ProtectFile works seamlessly with today’s heterogeneous enterprise network environment and fulfils the requirements of security, adaptability and manageability. Its client side encryption and decryption provides end-to-end data protection between clients and servers for data stored on local as well as remote media including all storage devices using one of Microsoft’s file systems e.g. hard disks, floppies, USB sticks, ZIP and CD-ROMS. Due to the flexibility of its multi-layered key management system, ProtectFile allows users to maintain workflow without imposing new work regimes. The key management consists of three layers: a data encryption layer, a group encryption layer and an individual encryption layer which allows users to create arbitrary workgroups that share encrypted folders as well as the ability to add and remove users from such groups on demand. A user may participate in several groups and access the encrypted folders of each group seamlessly. In its premium edition, ProtectFile integrates key management and authentication structure into a PKI environment e.g. LDAP, CRL. This enables ProtectFile’s user management to become even more flexible. By performing lookups of the central user directory (LDAP or Active Directory), the administrator of an encrypted folder can add or remove arbitrary users. The employment of user certificates eliminates the need for a shared secret, e.g. new users can access encrypted folders without receiving any secret information for example, an entry password. ProtectFile has been widely deployed to industry and government customers worldwide for many years with thousands of users at key customer sites. Due to its ease of use and full transparency, it maximises user compliance with security policies.
