BitPass Appoints Michael ODonnell as New CEO

BitPass has hired Michael ODonnell as its new Chief Executive Officer and member of its Board of Directors. Kurt Huang, BitPass Co-Founder and current CEO, will become Chief Product Officer and continue as a Board member.
ODonnell, 40, was the CEO and President of Salon Media Group, a publicly traded Internet media company that publishes the award-winning web magazine, During his seven-year tenure at Salon (1996-2003), ODonnell oversaw the development of its business operations including advertising sales, marketing, finance and paid online subscriptions, and was a founding member of the Online Publishers Association. ODonnell also raised over $66 million in private and public financing, including the companys successful Initial Public Offering in 1999. Prior to Salon, ODonnell spent 10 years in senior sales and marketing positions in the consumer technology industry at SegaSoft, Rocket Science Games, The Software Toolworks, SoftKey and GeoWorks.. BitPass was founded in December 2002 to address the growing demand for digital content (music, video, photos, news, patents) and the need for publishers to efficiently monetize their offerings. Since the companys production release of the service in December 2003, BitPass has signed over 500 vendors listing over 25 million digital goods and services. The company received its first round of venture funding in July 2003 from Garage Technology Ventures, Cardinal Venture Capital and Amicus Capital. Kawasaki and Eric Dunn, a Partner at Cardinal and former CFO and CTO at Intuit, Inc., also serve on BitPass Board of Directors.
