UnionPay joins forces with JD.com

Payments network UnionPay International (UPI) has entered a collaboration with JD.com to leverage JD PAY, the latter’s digital payment service, to improve cross-border shopping. 

As part of their partnership, UPI intends to utilise JD PAY’s capabilities to enhance the cross-border shopping experience, allowing users to leverage their local UnionPay cards on JD.com. The collaboration focuses on meeting the evolving demand for simplified international online payment options, directly responding to the need for efficient and convenient cross-border ecommerce transactions.

UnionPay – JD.com collaboration objectives

The two companies intend to provide consumers globally with a more simplified payment process when shopping on JD.com, thus working towards improving the overall experience for clients outside of China and enabling them with access to products delivered on JD’s Global Sales platform. Additionally, JD.com’s adoption of UPI cards supports the advancement of China’s ecommerce industry as it enhances cross-border transactions for customers. The partnership also assists small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and exporters on JD.com in receiving international payments and eliminating the difficulties commonly associated with multiple currencies, and collection policies, among others. Through this, global shoppers can leverage their preferred payment methods to access and acquire JD.com’s array of products.

Furthermore, UPI and JD.com are committed to improving their collaboration by facilitating cross-border payments and ecommerce expansion. One of the two companies’ objectives is to offer a safe and efficient shopping experience, while also delivering universal accessibility and convenience for customers worldwide. According to its data, UPI currently operates in 81 countries and regions outside of mainland China, with the company intending to enhance the online payment experience for its cardholders. Following the evolving trend of consumers choosing online transactions, the company recently expanded its network, enabling over 22 million online merchants across 200 countries and regions to accept its cards.
