SmartDebit signs deal with Computop

SmartDebit, UK’s Direct Debit Bureau, has signed an agreement with Computop, a global payment service provider.

The integration between SmartDebit’s Direct Debit processing capability and Computop’s Paygate platform, will now allow merchants to access and offer their customers all forms of payment via a single gateway.

According to Bacs, a UK scheme for the electronic processing of financial transactions, the number of Direct Debits processed in the UK has increased by 59.7 percent between 2000 and 2011. Research also suggests that Britain is moving towards a ‘cashless society’, it has never been more essential for organisations to ensure their payment offerings include Direct Debit for regular transactions.

The Computop Paygate is a multi-channel payment platform that provides online retailers with payment and fraud prevention services for international markets. E-commerce solutions such as Demandware, hybris, Magento and Oxid support Computop Paygate as a preferred payment service solution for global payment processing. In addition, Computop Paygate has been integrated into SAPs Business ByDesign business software to provide global payment processing.
