Vodafone, ICICI Bank launch M-Pesa mobile payment service in India

India-based financial services provider ICICI Bank and Vodafone have launched the mobile money transfer and payment service dubbed M-Pesa in West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand. A rollout across India is expected within a year-and-a-half.

Using M-Pesa, customers can transfer money to any mobile phone in India and remit money to any bank account in the country.

In recent news, Romanian metro operator Metrorex and mobile network operators Orange and Vodafone have made their mobile payment service available to the entire Bucharest metro system after testing it in a number of metro stations across Bucharest in 2012.
