A study providing an overview of the e-commerce platforms forecasts that in 2009 the value of the UK market for e-commerce technology is to be around GBP 540 million.

In 2007, this market reached GBP 400 million and throughout 2008 it has witnessed an 18 percent growth. Online sales in UK have seen a significant growth over the last year, from GBP 46.6 billion in 2007 to GBP 59.8 billion in 2008. According to the same study, the main factors contributing to the increase of e-commerce are the rising broadband penetration rates, higher competition and a higher level of acceptance of the medium among shoppers. In 2009, UK online sales are to climb by 14.4 percent to GBP 68.4 billion, as compared to GBP 59.8 billion registered in 2008, another study points out.
