The financial services providers which participated in the trial were Dutch bank ABN, Austrian banking group BAWAG and The Royal Bank of Scotland Group. During the VocaLink SDD pilot, the banks tested a series of SDD business-to-business (B2B) services as well as their IT infrastructure by means of a virtual environment designed specifically for the trial. The main purpose of the trial was to allow the banks to verify their regulatory compliance to the new standards imposed in the wake of the SDD go-live.
The SEPA Direct Debit scheme is set to enter into force on 1 November 2009. It aims to provide a set of inter-bank rules, practices and standards which allow the banking industry within SEPA to provide domestic and cross-border direct debits which are subject to the same essential conditions.
