The new PIN Pads will be installed throughout the Shell company petrol station network and will allow cardholders to perform more secure transactions by simply entering a four-digit number rather than relying on a signature. Shell has led the deployment of Chip and PIN among the UKs oil companies. Shell was the first major UK oil company to achieve bank certification for its EMV system and is now the first to commence nationwide roll-out. The roll-out follows an extended pilot at high traffic sites in Northampton which was proved successful.
