In 2008, Polish customers spent almost EUR 1 billion (PLN 4.5 billion) for purchases via the online channel, with EUR 190.6 (PLN 850) as the average value per online transaction, polishmarket.com reports.

In the above-mentioned period, the percentage of internet users accessing online banking services has climbed from 29 percent in 2007 to 35 percent in 2008. For those living in large towns with more than 100,000 inhabitants, internet banking is the most popular online activity (with 47 percent internet users located in such areas claiming to use such services).

In February 2009, the Polish Finance Ministry announced plans to improve the fiscal regulation for the control of online vendors in the country and introduce new regulation that would empower the government body to gain access to any information related to the identification of any individual who is under suspicion of running unregistered online business.
