The Monaco Government Tourist and Convention Authority, Nokia and NXP Semiconductors and Monaco technology organisation WIMA have launched an experimental NFC trial in Monaco.

The trial was launched on the occasion of the NFC Forum members’ meeting in Monaco at the WIMA 2008 conference. Trial participants used NFC-enabled Nokia phones to receive information and guidance by waving their phone against contact points (contactless tags) along the so called ‘NFC Parcourse Princess Grace Monaco’ route.

A second similar NFC project will be launched on 1 December in the Nuveau Musee National de Monaco, after a partnership between the Monaco Government Tourist and Convention Authority, NMNM, Nokia, NXP Semiconductors and enamax studio. In this program, Nokia NFC mobile phone users will wave their phones against tags that are places alongside the items in order to receive information about the different museum exhibits. Users will be able to view text, photographs, as well as access audio and video content. Technology used in the trial includes Nokia 6212 NFC mobile phones, NXP tags incorporating MIFARE technology and enamax studio web services.

WIMA 2008 is the European NFC industry event and meeting place for developers, systems integrators, device manufacturers, MNO’s, the finance industry and service providers to exchange the latest standards information and product development news. WIMA is part of the Monaco Mediax organisation, created by the Monaco government to promote technology, business and cultural events within the Principality.
